I am a worker from Sudey garment factory.
At the workplace, we are facing many forms of psychological harassment and physical harassment. There is a WCC workers’ organization in the factory. There is also a workers’ leader. However, we cannot report our difficulties. They are all in the same circle, drinking from the same bottle.
We do not sew only one point. We are made to rotate and sew across all three lines. Our line has to meet its own production target, and we also have to run and sew to help other lines meet their targets.
Even though we work like this, we are not given skill allowances. Those who are close to the leaders receive Grade A even if they sew only one point. In the line, we are insulted as “useless girls.”
She calls meetings and says, “I am the most badass in the whole factory. Go and complain wherever you like. I have the authority to do whatever I want.” We are scolded and humiliated. All the pressure to force the line supervisor to resign comes from this area-supervisor Yu War Htwe. She also gives biased grades to create misunderstandings among workers in the line.
We, the line workers, submitted a complaint letter to the factory suggestion box. Nothing changed. We cannot even report to the WCC leader because the workers’ leader herself is close with the area-supervisor, even drinking and going out together, so we cannot speak. We do not receive the rights and benefits we deserve for the work we do.
If a worker tries to explain even a little, the area-supervisoraccuses them of talking back and starts scolding. She knocks people on the head. Those she favors receive Grade A even for sewing small points. The rest of the workers, no matter how much they run and sew, are denied grades with the excuse that they did not listen to her. All our hard work goes to waste.
Every time there is a meeting with workers, the all-super always says, “Go and complain about me anywhere you like. Even if you jump and bite out of jealousy for my position, you will only get tired,” speaking in a mocking and degrading way.
We workers cannot speak to the factory, cannot complain to the WCC workers’ leader, and can only endure humiliation.
The factory opens the grievance procedure with a loudspeaker every day, but nothing changes. The management only protects each other.
