The workers of SHI AN (MYANMAR) CO, LTD garment factory which locates at No.227, Ka Naung Min Thar Gyi Street, Industrial Zone (2), Hlaing Thar Yar said that they are working without being entitle to leave benefits

The factory is a Chinese national owned factory and manufactures JACK&JONES brand.  The employer do not allow the causal and medical leaves which the workers are entitled to, also does not give a leave but cut the wages if the workers submit a leave due to health and emergency issues. 5,800 kyats daily wages and 20,000 kyats attendance bonus; total of 25,800 kyats are cut due to the fact they don’t get leaves although they informed, said by the workers.

The workers suffer as they don’t get a medical leave although they contributed in the social security fees.

The workers explained about their difficulties because of “Demanding the workers unfair fabric targets in the workplace, only 50 workers in a cavity and each have to handle two points machines, the fabrics being sewn are the jackets and a worker is assigned to finish 45 cloths per hour, the assigned cloths have high level of difficulties to sew, struggling to meet the demands of the employer although we sew without going to toilet and a water break, and the all supers and supers verbally abusing far beyond then we could take daily, by yelling the names from the top of the cavities if the employers demands are not met.”

The workers said that they even have to work at the lunch time without having the lunch to meet the employer’s demands due to the pressurizing of the all supers and supers. Even if the workers meet a day’s target as they work without taking a lunch, they raise the fabric demands of the next day and forcing more than the workers can work is exploiting the workers.

The workers appeals are to allow legal causal and medical leaves, the employer to only ask the amount that the workers can sew, all supers and supers not to verbally abuse the workers while demanding the fabric targets.
