Helping organizations’ members said that the officials of the Sheng Da Ming Apparel Co., Ltd (Saint Thar Min) garment factory from Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone (1) fired a male worker for borrowing a lighter. It is reported that the helper worker Myo Zaw Htun was fired after being accused of smoking in the workplace while what he actually did was borrowing the lighter as the husband of the HR manager was asking.
‘The HR manager’s husband came to my place to borrow a lighter. I said that my friend has one as I did not have. I said that I will give him when I am free but he told me to come give at the toilet. I went to give and the janitor lady saw that too. She even told that I was borrowing a lighter when the HR asked her whether I was smoking or borrowing a lighter. But she answered reversely when we were in the labor office,” said Ko Myo Zaw Htun.
Ko Myo Zaw Tun, who has been working at the Saint Thar Min factory for two years, was fired after being accused of smoking on December 30. Ko Myo Zaw Tun filed a complaint to the Office of labor guidance to resolve the grievances due to unfair dismissal.
Ko Myo Zaw Tun, who is working at the factory, said that the HR manager made fun of him and told him not to come to work. Ko Myo Zaw Tun started working as a machine line assistant at Saint Thar Min Factory and later moved to the Cutting Department. He said that he was transferred back to the sewing machine line as he had a problem with the HR manager at work.
"The HR manager transfer the worker to other departments with malice even before this incident. Now her husband is involved in the case. As it's her husband who borrowed a lighter, he also smoked. Is it to make the worker fired? Anyway, the HR manager is involving," said a support member.
Currently, Ko Zaw Myo Tun is preparing to file a lawsuit in the civil court as his grievanceshave not been resolved in mediation at the Township Labor Department.
