Sewell Garment Myanmar workers request not to dismiss the pregnant workers

The workers from Sewell Garment Myanmar garment factory which locates at No.(17/19), Ngwe Pin Lae Industrial Zone, A Lae (2) street, Hlaing Thar Yar Township with more than 500 workers and manufacturing the Japanese brand YAMADATATSU ORRIGINAL said that they want help to get resolvents upon labor right abuses and dismissing the pregnant workers.

The workers request not to dismiss the female workers who are facing many difficulties as they were not pregnant before working but the factory dismiss them as soon as they found out that those workers are pregnant.

The working hours are from 8:00 to 18:30. The workers are working upon 4,800 kyats daily wages, 1,200 kyats per hour for overtime, 1,000 kyats stipend and the ticket fees according to the seniority by years.

The violations are the employer giving only 9,600 kyats but not the 1,000 kyats stipend on the Sundays. The workers with less than service of 6 months are not allowed to get a causal leave. The workers are forced to move to other departments without their agreement and the garment workers are forced to iron the fabrics so that the worker said they want those issues to be resolved.

Additionally the workers are verbally abuses if the fabric targeted outputs are not get and the workers don’t get a causal leave although they submit full reasons and documents. Also there are difficulties due to the fact that the sick worker have to go get the medical prescription at the office above the factory themselves to get assess to take the medicines at the clinic inside the factory and the workers are seeking resolvents upon these issues.

The workers appeals are to ask only the amounts of targets the workers can sew, to get entitle to legal causal leaves, the interpreters and supers not to verbally abuse, not to dismiss the pregnant workers, to allow access to the factory’s clinic with just the super’s signature, not to move to other departments without the workers’ agreements.
