BOFEI GARMENT Co.,ltd workers said that they want resolvent in accordance with the law upon the issue regarding the factory dismiss the day laborers illegally just before the brand representees came to inspect due to labor right abuses and hire new day laborers after that.
The workers from BOFEI GARMENT Co.,ltd which locates at the intersection of Seik Kan Thar Street and Mya Taung Wun Gyi U Mo Street, Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon region said that the inspectors from the brand came to inspect after the factory is reported in the media for labor right abuse.
The factory dismissed more than 40 day laborers without prior notice just before the inspection team came and those workers have damages as they already have more than 3 months of service and the workers are seeking resolvent upon that.
The factory is a Chinese national owned factory which is manufacturing page one brand apparel with more than 400 workers and no trade union nor work place coordination team is formed in the factory.
“The factory is reported in January for labor right abuse and they fire more than 40 day laborers in advance just before the brand’s representatives come regarding the matter. And they also pretrained the workers to tell the inspectors only the well-being about the factory. Actually, there are too many violations and nothing changed although the inspectors came in. They even hire more day laborers than before,” said the worker.
The workers also said the drinking water is not purified and it have rust odors. The working hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 18:30 a.m. and they can’t refuse the all evening and all night overtimes that are called without prior notice.
The workers said “Those who refuse to work overtime are discriminated against. They hold much grudges even to fire from the work and we don’t get access to the social security although we contribute in the social security and neither leave permit for health issue even if the social security clinic is permitting. It cost daily wage 5,600 kyats and attendance bonus 10,000 kyats for us to take a day off,” said the worker.
The workers said that they want to appeal to resolve social security leave and medical leave matters, to resolve the case of dismissing the day laborers without prior notice and to provide purified drinking water.
