A worker from Saung Oo Shwe Nay garment factory said that the factory is forcing 25 workers to manufacture 27 H&M pants and the cavity that is assigned for this task is line no.37.
“Every workers from the cavity have to manufacture 4 to 5 points which is an impossible amount. Workers have to work continuously and it seems like they are exploiting us,” said line 34 super.
The worker continued to say that the factory needs 50 workers normally to manufacture at this rate and for now they are not get paid the fabric fees as they can’t finish the fabrics on time due to insufficient workforce. They have already talked with the HR department about their difficulties but there is no resolvent upon this,” said a worker.
“We said to reinforce with more 15 workers but they denied it and just replied to do it without any reasons. They are even planning to increase the demands,” they said.
The workers said the reason they have to work is because the factory pressurized them and they have submit the current problems to the WCC team but the factory keep a blind eye.
“We have reported to both the brand and the HR manager but nothing have changed. There are some cavities with around 60 workers in the factory. They can share some workers from there even if they don’t want to hire new workers. It seems that they want to abolish the cavity and want the super to resign,” said the super herself.
“There is only 21 workers who work full time in line no.34 not counting the super and 3 helpers. A worker said that the factory ignore the insufficient workforce and pressurizing them.
“They asked the targeted fabric on 18th of this month, I said it is not possible and the cavity manager
Told me to resign. The HR too failed to reinforce us,” said the line no. 34 super.
It is benefits for the factory to assign with insufficient workforce but it became a burden for the workers and it is not convenient for long term, so that the factory should reinforce the necessary workforce, said the line no.34 super.
Saung Oo Shwe Nay garment factory locates at Alal Street 3,Ngwe Pin Le Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon and the factory employes more than 2,000 workers and manufacturing New Yorker’s SMOG brand, Swedish H%M and DIVIDED brand apparels.
