Rong Da Garment Company Limited forcing the workers to work overtime

According to the workers from Rong Da Garment Company Limited which located at War Ta Yar Industrial Zone, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon region, the factory is forcing the overtime.

The factory force the workers to work until 7:00 pm on the March 4, which is the pay day of the factory and some workers are even forced to work all night, according to the worekrs.

“Other factories pay at 12:30 on the pay day but Rong Da give only at 4:00 pm but this time they didn’t pay at 4:00 pm so that the workers reported. They got paid for now but they were forced to work overtime.” Said a person who is close with the workers.

Rongda garment factory is manufacturing Sinsay, SMOG and RESERVED brand apparels and it is a factory where workplace disputes frequently occurred.

The factory mis-dismiss a clerk from packing department and also dismiss a seamstress who injured in the workplace with a compensation of 20,000 kyats. The factory also forced the workers to work overtime on public holidays, verbally abused the workers, denied their leaves, holidays and social security and intimidated them with dismissal if they can’t finish the demanded fabric output of if they refuse to work overtime.

The factory is operating with 22 cavities with over 1,700 workforce and there is no workplace disputes meditation mechanisms such as trade union or coordination committee.

Myanmar Labour News also posted a news about workers damages including not getting enough sleep due to working every day without a day off and the effects on their health and social due to the mosquitoes problems in the factory,
