Rapidly dismissing the day laborers

The workers from Sunrise Myanmar Fashion Garment which locates at Kyaut Sein Street, Thar Du Kan Industrial Zone 4, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon region said that the factory is rapidly firing the day laborers and abusing the labor rights, and they are seeking for help.

The factory which is owned by a Chinese national is operating with 1,000 workers and manufacturing GLOBAL WORK, WOLLYTEC, CINEMA CLUB, HARE, LEPSIL,URBAL FUNCTION , SINCE 1930 UNITED ATHLA, FINO-OUT, LOWRYS FARM and AIRTHERMAL brand fabrics.

A workplace coordination committee is formed in the workplace but there is no trade union in the factory.

The in charge of Finishing department rapidly dismiss the day laborers without any reasons and the other day laborers are also suffering as they are given weekly and not get paid on Sundays.

The illegally dismissed day laborers have worked for 3 months to 4 months and they are not get paid damages. The factory fired at least around 20 day laborers on March 18.

“They dismissed the day laborers and hire the new one yesterday which is the same as violating the labor law. The inspectors came to check usually but nothing had changed,” the workers said.

They said that they don’t want the factory to dismiss the day laborers if they don’t make any mistakes as the traditional Thingyan holiday is closed and there are difficulties to get a new job.

The workers said that they want to request to give the sunday wages and notice fees with back date calculation in accordance with the law to the day laborers who were dismissed illegally.
