Workers from Chinese national owned MYAMKA GARMENT LIMITED factory which locates at U Aung Zaya Street, East Dagon Township said that workers are not entitled to legal benefits and the pregnant workers are also losing their maternity leaves and benefits as well.

The factory is manufacturing SPRINFFIELD brands with more than 1,500 workers and not having a workplace disputes resolving team such as trade union.

“We have to contribute 3,000 kyats for social security per month. But we are not entitled to the social security leaves. Daily wages 5,800 kyats and attendance bonus 20,000 kyats are cut for taking a single day leave. Seamstresses are given 6,600 kyats while other being paid 5,800 but only get paid 4,800 kyats if we don’t submit a resignation letter if we resign. The factory is exploiting us,” said the worker.

The pregnant workers only entitled to unpaid leave for birth. There are 41 workers in a cavity including all supers and supers and they are asked for 80 fabric points per hour within 10 working hours including 2 hours of overtime and the supervisors are verbally abusing and harassing for not finishing the fabrics which makes them morally downgraded.

“They asked for unfair fabrics demands and we have to sign warnings if we can’t finish or if there are some qualitied failed fabrics in which we manufacture. They force us all nights overtime too and those who don’t work are treated with malice.  Workers who have to work all nights are not provided enough meal and some times they even have to work without eating as the foods are outdated,” said a worker.

And the water for toilet is connected with drinking water which makes them uncomfortable to drink and there is no medic clinic and medicines in the factory as well.

The workers said that they want to request the factory to survey their consents for calling overtime, not to force workers who can’t stay all night to work all night overtime, not to provided outdated foods, to provide purified drinking water, not to cut their benefits without their agreements and to give them legal rights and social security packages.
