We are from about Peak Outdoor (Yangon) Co., Ltd.

The factory is violating the pregnant workers.

On Friday, July 18, the factory made workers do overnight overtime. Even though the pregnant women said they couldn’t work overtime, the factory still forced her to work.

They said not to come at all from home, if we can’t work overnight overtime. Workers are worried they might lose their attendance bonus. One of the workers thought she could speak up and explained her situation, but they didn’t release her, so she ended up working the full overnight shift.

The factory is located on Mya Tharaphi Road, Mya Sein Yaung Industrial Zone, Hlaingtharyar Township, Yangon.

There is a WCC and a trade union. Around 600 workers are employed there. Most midnight and overnight shifts are taken up by other departments. But the sewing lines were called in for overnight shift that Friday.

The cutting department sometimes has to work full weeks without a break. We work until 7:30 PM every day. But we work until 6:30 PM on Saturdays.

We used to have to work overtime until 8:30 PM, but it was pulled back to 7:30 PM after we filed complaints. But now, the pressure is getting worse again.

Please help.

(There were reports that supervisors at Peak Outdoor (Yangon) Co., Ltd. discriminated against pregnant workers back in March. Workers also said that foreign specialists forced workers who didn’t want to do overtime to accept warnings and verbal threats. At that time, they were manufacturing Japanese ordered INAREM brand garments.)
