Workers from Golden Colour Fashion factory reported to Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar - STUM on the night of July 18 that they are being forced to work overtime until 8:00 PM and in the Cutting Department, they are being called in for early morning shifts without prior notice or agreement.

This factory is located in Shwepyithar Industrial Zone (3), Insein Township, and manufactures Sinsay and Kappa brands.

“Tonight (July 18), the factory called the Cutting Department for midnight overtime and the Store Department for overnight overtime. The sewing departments are also being called for overtime until 8:00 OM,” workers from the factory reported to STUM seeking assistance.

According to Myanmar labour law, a worker is allowed to work only 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week. Employers are required to obtain consent from workers before assigning overtime. STUM stated that forcing workers to work without their consent constitutes illegal overtime.

The Ministry of Labour has also established that overtime should not exceed 4 hours per day and 20 hours per week.
