The No.2 Thailand-Myanmar friendship bridge near the Thailand-Myanmar border at Myawaddy re-opened on April 30th but MOU workers have not been able to be dispatched.

The No.1 and No.2 bridges are closed due to the battles at Myawaddy and No.1 bridge reopened on 27th and the No.2 on 30th of April.

“The No.2 bridge is re-opened but there are infrastructures that need to be repaired so that sending MOU workers to Thailand is temporarily suspended. But after the repairing it will it will be approved,” said an official.

Previously, around 500 to 800 MOU workers are sent from Myanmar to Thailand daily via the No.2 friendship bridge.

In addition, the MOU U-Turn system was used in Myawaddy to allow Myanmar workers who had expired in Thailand to legally return to work in Thailand. Currently, MOU Myanmar workers are being sent by flights to Thailand, and they are also being sent from Kawthaung-Ranong road.

"We are sending the MOU workers by flight. After the infrastructures are repaired, we will send the MOU workers back. The new workers are being sent by flight, but the MOU U-Turn workers will be sent from Myawaddy-Me Sot route," said an official from the Ministry of Labor.

It is reported that MOU workers are allowed to be repatriated, they can go to Thailand from Yangon to Don Moeng airport by flight and through Kawthaung-Ranong Road and Myawaddy-Mae Sot road as well
