It is known that a factory is reported for not paying the minimum wage of 4,800 MMK but no actions are taken.

“No matter how much the entrepreneur says he paid 4,800, The fact that the basic salary is written as 130,000 MMK on the wage sheet shows that the minimum wage is not paid. The labours don’t know that their salary is more than 200,000 MMK if their overtime and other fees combined. If they give 144,000 as basic salary, it will meet the minimum wage of 4,800 MMK per day. 130,000 is not a basic salary. There is no solution to this yet although it has been reported. It's been more than a month since Taw Win Wood Finishing Mill was reported and nothing has changed,” said by a laboural supporter.

According to STUM, there are 2 complaints from the labours at the Shwe Pyi Thar Township Office of Labour Guidance that they are not able to meet the minimum wage of 4800 kyats per day.

A labour from Taw Win Wood Finishing Mill from Shwe Pyi Thar and another labour from Hong Miao Garment reported at the Township Office of Labour Guidance for getting the basic salary only 130,000 MMK.

At present, as the commodity prices have risen exponentially, a labour can only be sufficient for livelihood if the daily wage is 10,000 MMK, so there have been requests to increase the current daily wage of 4,800 MMK to 10,000 MMK a day, and there are also statements pointing out that the daily wage should be MMK based on the price of goods and the dollar.

"Yes, even though there have been requests for an increase in the minimum wage, the current minimum wage of 4,800MMK is still not being paid. Some factories do not want to pay the labours even 4,800 MMK. Therefore, they only hire them as day laborers. They even hire the children who are not yet of age with 3,600 MMK," said a labor affairs support worker.

Currently, the factories pay 4,800 MMK per day to the workers, but there are cases where Sunday's wages are deducted, and violations such as calculated the wages by days and not paying on holidays and paying only 3,600 MMK instead of the minimum wage of 4,800 MMK per day.
