The Solamoda 2 (Myanmar Sunview) garment factory which locates in Daw Phwar Shin Street, Shwe Pyi Thar was shut down after a fire broke out in 2021, and after 2 years, a negotiated settlement has been reached for the benefits demanded by the labours.

“It's been more than two years. Today, the settlement has been reached. It's no longer a severance pay, a notice pay, or an interval suffer comepnsation, but a negotiation based on those three points which is also the settlement rate that all labours accept and are satisfied with”, known from a labour.

"All Super, Lines Supers and Leaders who were working at the time of the Solamoda 2 (Myanmar Sunview) Garment Fire, and STUM officials, the officials sent by Solamoda group and the officials from the factory side held the meetings at the labour center on the 16th and 19th of January for the benefits of the labours, and once again on August 30th, a settlement was reached at a rate acceptable to all labours.

According to the settlement, there are up to 1,300 labours who were working at the time of the fire incident at the factory. STUM which is helping the labours to contact and collect the entitlement rates themselves or the family members on behalf, also urged them to be informed.

The factory was operating with over 1,000 labours, but a fire broke out on March 14, 2021, and even though fire insurance was in place, the factory was temporarily closed without paying compensation to the labours. It is reported that the labours who became unemployed while waiting for the reopening of the factory were faced with many difficulties so that they made the demands.

The labours requested 1. Annual severance pays 2. Notice compensation for a month. 3. Interval suffering compensations for (14_3_21 to 31-12-21) were requested, but the employer agreed to requests (1) and (2) but failed to agree to request (3), so the first meeting and negotiation was canceled. But in the next negotiation on August 30th, it was reported that instead of 3 demands, negotiations were settled with a rate acceptable to the labours.
