The Myanmar Xing Rui Fashion Co., Ltd. garment factory located in Thar Du Kan Industrial Zone is reportedly engaging in discriminatory practices against a worker who was declined to work overtime.

“She said she was worried about getting home late because it was until 9 PM, and had difficulty, so she explained and left around 8 PM. The next day, the supervisor called her and said, ‘You don’t need to work overtime. At 4 PM, just leave as you wish,’” a worker said.

It was further stated that in a meeting held that day, the female worker who didn’t work overtime was excluded and discriminated against. Up until now, she has not been asked to work overtime, and at 4 PM, the factory manager sends her home, it was reported.

“The factory doesn’t ask about workers’ concerns. They say overtime is mandatory, that the order is important, and they force us to do it. They force us to come to work even on Sundays and day offs. If we don’t, the supervisors scold us.”

In addition, the factory dismissed a worker, accusing them of being a worker leader. It was reported that back in September, this occurred when three workers were accused of being worker leaders, and the management confronted them and ask if they are leaders. Afterward, they were terminated.

“The manager called and said that to. For the first time, they made them sign a warning letter, saying it was just a notice. When we asked the WCC to mediate, the manager refused, saying, ‘Go complain wherever you like. The factory doesn’t care.’ They terminated them, giving two months’ salary. One of the three refused to accept the two-month pay and filed a complaint,” according to someone close to the workers.

Furthermore, it was said that “The factory hides casual workers instead of letting them work when there are audits or inspections.”

It is said that the factory pre-selects certain workers and trains them on how to provide misleading answers during inspections.

The Myanmar Xing Rui Fashion Co., Ltd. garment factory, located on Otthaphaya Road, Thar Du Kan Industrial Zone, manufactures brands such as OVS, Reserved, LOYALTI and XSIDE.
