Myanmar Huasheng Kefu Fashion garment factory reportedly reduced the promised daily wage by 1,000 kyats, paying only 10,000 kyats instead of the originally promised 11,000 kyats, according to workers who spoke with the Industrial Workers Federation of Myanmar (IWFM). They said the factory had pledged to pay 11,000 kyats as a daily wage

“They said they would give 11,000 kyats as daily wage plus subsidy when we were hired, but in reality, they only gave 10,000 kyats . We don’t even get full wages, and we can’t complain to anyone. We just have to take what they give and do what they say. They’re saying the same thing againhis month. They keep telling us not to quit. They need to pay us properly,” a worker said.

Workers also reported that the factory has been hiring about 20 underage and daily wage workers due to labor shortages. Youth workers aged 14 to 15 are being employed without medical certificates, and daily wage workers are not being granted full employment status even after working for over three months.

According to workers, the legally mandated leave days are not granted. Instead, absences are marked as no-shows and wages are deducted.

“Not all workers get leave. Only supervisors and their associates do. Missing a single day results in around 60,000 kyat deduction while they only pay us 10,000 kyats daily wage, and 40,000 kyats attendance bonus. We don’t dare miss a single day,” a worker explained.

Workers also said there is no medicine available for treating workplace injuries, and they are denied whenever they request gate passes due to poor health. Additionally, wage disparities exist among workers even though they perform the same duties.

“There’s a wage gap of about 150,000 kyats between some workers. The production quotas are unfair. They demand more quota even if we don’t drink water or go to the restroom and meet the quota. The supervisors verbally abuse us if we don’t meet the quota. They don’t inform us in advance for overtime. We’re forced to work overtime, and it lasts from 12:30 PM until 8 or 9 PM without any breaks,” they said.

Workers also reported that the factory has no emergency exits, all doors are kept closed, and there is no ventilation, making the working environment uncomfortable. Workers said no changes have occurred despite filing complaints about these workplace violations with the labour office, .

Myanmar Huasheng Kefu Fashion Co., Ltd. employs over 600 workers and is a Chinese citizen-owned factory. It is currently located on Myakhattar Road in Mya Sein Yaung Industrial Zone, Hlaingtharya Township, and manufacture brands such as Sinsay and TERRANOVA.
