A worker from the Myanmar Handsome Garment Factory reports that the HR Manager has been exploiting from their wages.

The factory is located on Sayar San Road, Ywar Thar Gyi Industrial Zone, South Dagon Township, Yangon, and is said to employ over 1,000 workers.

“30,000 kyats is deducted from their first salary for new male workers, and 20,000 kyats is cut from female without any explanation. These new workers are transitioned from daily to monthly wage earners, and their wages are deducted in the first month. This deduction is made by calling them into either the production line office or the administrative office,” said one worker.

Workers say this kind of wage deduction causes hardship and they are unwilling to accept it.

“We want to know why the money is being deducted if we have to pay,” they said.

According to Section 7, Subsection 12(g) of the 2013 Minimum Wage Law, no deductions other than those permitted under the minimum wage framework are allowed.

Myanmar Handsome Factory is known to manufacture POVV, Only, and Sank brands.
