Workers from Myanmar Haisheng Fashion Clothes garment factory which located at U Tun Nyo Street, Industrial Zone 3, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon Region said that they are having health issues due to being called excessive overtime.

The factory calls them overtime from 7:00 p.m. to 00:00 a.m. or all-night overtimes. And the factory conceal the excessive overtime when the authorities came to inspect the factory.

“The supervisors force the workers to lie at the inspection that they have to work overtime only until 6:00 p.m. and also said that they are allowed to take leaves. We have to work overtime from 7:00 p.m. to 00:00 a.m. or all-night overtimes since June, July until now. The inspectors are not equitable and the factory force to tell lies so the workplace violations are still occurring. The authorities said that overtime is mandatory. The employer said they don’t care the news on media because they can bribe the relevant department,” the worker said.

It have been 2 years the factory re-open after a closure and Myanmar Labour News posted a news item about the factory’s violations on July 31, 2024 and the employer paid the workers’ annual fees on August 1, 2024.

The joint inspectors came to inspect on August 2 and the violations were not exposed as the supervisors pressurize the workers to answer as they taught them.

The factory doesn’t make changes regarding the workplace violations until now and it gets even worse. Workers are working from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. overtimes and all-night overtimes since June, July until now.
