More people tried to leave the country by visiting visa or work visa after the Thingyan festival. The amount of people who tried to go abroad have significantly increase after the coup and youths are trying to go illegally due to pressurizing to serve in the military.
“I came to UAE with visit visa and I got a job there. I searched for it since I was in Myanmar as my partner is there. I came here with her connection. I will not come back to Myanmar although I live here illegally. My family is supporting me tens of thousands of kyats every month and I will try to call my siblings to come here as well,” said a person who is working in UAE.
Many people queued for visiting visas at the foreign embassies after the conscription law came into effect. Therefore, the embassies had to put restrictions on the visa process.
“I will go to Thailand. I don’t want to live here anymore. I want to go legally but it will depends on certain conditions. I don’t know what will happen here. I feel that living illegally in abroad might better than living in our home country,” said a youth.
The state owned newspaper reported that there are many people going on long-day trips to foreign countries after the Thingyan festival.
The rate of migration among the youths increase due to the economic decline, commodity price raisings, very low salary, lack of rule of law and the drafting the youths by the conscription law.
