MICS Secretary General U Thet Hnin Aung was sentenced to 7 more years in prison

There are news reporting Myanmar Industry Crafts & Services Trade Unions Federation (MICS-TUsF), MICS - TUsF – Myanmar general Secretary U Thet Hnin Aung has been jailed for 7 more years by the Military Council.

ABSDF-UNRA Commander-in-Chief Captain Khin Kyaw along with U Thet Hnin Aung were sentenced to life in prison under Article 124(a) by the Shwe Pyi Thar Military Tribunal. A member of UNRA wrote on the social network that UNRA Sergeant Hein Lin Zaw, also known as San Shae, was sentenced to 7 years in prison.

U Thet Hnin Aung, Secretary General of MICS-TUsF, was arrested in June 2021 by the Military Council and charged with Section 17(1) of Unlawful Association Contacting, and sentenced to 2 years in prison with hard labor. In the three years since his arrest, U Thet Hnin Aung has only been allowed to meet with his family members once, since he was detained at Thaton Zay Ma Thel Prison.

U Thet Hnin Aung was released from prison on June 26 2023, but has been missing ever since. Almost 5 months after his disappearance, reports emerged that U Thet Hnin Aung was sentenced to another prison term. According to current news, U Thet Hnin Aung was charged with 52/A by the Military Council and sentenced to 7 years of hard labor.

The law that the Military Council prosecuted was the Anti-Terrorism Act, and according to that law, U Thet Roo Aung was sentenced to the maximum punishment.

Since Myanmar is a member of the ILO, it has already signed Article No. 87, which stipulates the right to organize and form organizations freely within the country. However, the military council violated the rights of the contract and issued arrest warrants, arrest and oppress the trade union leaders. The labor organizations also say that the slaying and imprisonments are being committed continuously.
