Workers said that the LZS Apparel, Chinese national owned garment factory is forcing their labours and failing to give legal labour rights.

The factory is located at Than Lwin Road, Shwe Than Lwin Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township and operating with more than 800 workers.

The working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and workers asked excessive fabric outputs that is far beyond their productivity. The products are Japanese apparels and jackets which require skills to make, according to the workers.

“The factory asks for excessive fabric output. A production line with 60 people including the super are asked for 70 garments pieces per hour. The assistance manager verbally abuse us if we don’t finish the demands in the evening. The employer also stated that any types of leaves will not be allowed. Daily wages, allowance, attendance bonus and the ABC grade bonus (proportionally) are cut for missing a day of work,” said a worker.

It is learnt that workers are cut for 6,800 kyats daily wages, 1,000 kyats allowance, 40,000 kyats attendance bonus, ABC grade fees (proportionally) are cut for missing a day of work.

According to the sources, the grade bonuses levels are biased towards the workers who are confident with the supervisors, leading damages to the skilled and talented workers.

“We are not provided sufficient transportation. Not everyone get seats. And the day laborers doesn’t even get leaves on Sundays. We want the resolvents upon these situations as soon as possible,” they said.

Workers said that they want the factory to provide sufficient transportation, legal leaves, unbiased grade bonuses levels and to eliminate the verbal abuses and to negotiate with the fabric outputs.
