Workers from LUCKY FORTUNE GARMENT which located at Sayar U Tun Street, Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Industrial 4. Yangon said that the supervisors are verbally abusing them and they are not entitled to the leaves equally, forced to work overtime on Sunday without their constnts and being asked excessive fabric outputs.

The factory is owned by a Chinese national and manufacturing FieldCore brands with more than 1,000 workers.

There are around 37 workers including 28 seamstresses in a cavity and they are asked 500 shirts per 40 minutes and 700 pants per hour while being verbally abused.

“There are absents and resigned workers but they don’t count them. So, we have to work for those as well. The line 1 super is the worst. Many workers resigned because of her rudeness,”
 the worker said.

The working hours are from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm and they are forced to work mendatory overtime on Sundays and those who refuse are discriminated. Not all workers are equally entitled to the leave benefits but only those who are confident with the supervisors get that.

“Only those who are confident with the supervisors can take casual or medical leaves. Those who complaint them don’t get leaves and cut 5,800 kyats daily wages and 20,000 kyats attendance bonus for a single day off.

Workers said that many underage labors are hired and forced to work the same workloads and give the same fabric output as the adult workers.

“The employer accuse the worker whom they want to fire as thief and they call the army to arrest. A young male worker was arrested in that way and we don’t hear anything about him until now. Not taking actions on the person who stole but accusing the innocent people are disgrace,” worker said.

The workers said that the factory doesn’t take any responsibility to any workplace violations and they have to pay their own. “The supervisors already teach the workers how to respond to the inspectors. They force them to lie that everything is going well. They fired and held grudges on the workers who don’t answer on their favor,” said the worker.

The workers request are the supervisors not to verbally abuse the workers, to give legal and casual leaves, to ask the workers consents for calling overtime on Sundays and to take action on the line 1 super who is suppressing the workers.
