According to the Solidarity of Trade Unions, Myanmar (STUM) the LIGHTHOUSE Enterprises Limited force the workers to work overtime on Saturday as the substitute for the dinning times of other days.
LIGHTHOUSE Enterprises Limited which locatesat Mahar Myaing Street, War Ta Yar Industiral Zone, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon force the workers free overtime on Saturdays weekly for 45 minutes (11:00 AM to 11:45 AM) dinning time on other days and the workers report the case to the township labor office.
STUM said that the factory complained Department of labor that the workers only work 7 hours and 20 minutes a day if they subtract the dinning time so that they assign them overtime on Saturdays
The normal working hours of the factory are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and workers have to work from Monday to Saturday and the employee never give the overtime wages of Saturday until this day. The factory doesn’t promote the day laborers which numbers around 75 although it has been operating for more than 15 years according to the worker.
In addition, Ko Thant Zin Oo and Ko Han Myo Hlaing who started to work at the factory since 2014 and 2019 each as day laborers who get paid monthly are not yet appointed as permanent workers and neither have an EC contract.
