Xinda Home Textile from Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone has reduced grade bonus on paying wages to the labours who quit their jobs, the workers said. In the last month before resigning, the labours said that they had not made any mistakes and had met fabric the standards, but the wages were reduced.
"The supervisors (supers) said that wages will be reduced if we resign. An A+ great grader is reduced to a C. Quitting is an understatement," said the labour who quit his job.
It is said that grade specifications in the factory are divided into A+, A, B and C. The labour also said that there is a difference of 15,000 kyats in entitlement money between these great levels.
“When the factory paid my wages, my grade A was reduced to grade B grade. Great A is 37,000 MMK. As for B, it is 22,000 MMK. The other disadvantage is that the daily allowance is 500 MMK for A level. B gets 300 MMK. Here too, around 6,000 MMK have been gapped," said a female labour who quit her job.
At Xinda Home Textile, around 20 people leave their jobs every month, and there are monthly interviews to replace those who have left. The female labour said that due to the financial damages, some of her plans to quit her job and study were affected.
"I quit my job to attend a distance learning university. I worked hard all month to pay for my studies. Being a big A, the monthly income is convenient for going to school. After leaving the job and paid the salary with a grade B, all my ambitions became hopeless,” she said.
The female labour said that there is neither provision nor announcement in the factory rules that the salary will be reduced if she quits like this. Also, one of the female labours who resigned said that the process of resigning was carried out according to the process, and they notified a week in advance.
"I informed that I will quit my job on the 23rd but I worked until 30th. There was no mention in the factory that the salary would be reduced for quitting the job. Not in the EC contract either. The supers said that this grade reduction is caused by resigning,” she said.
She also said that although Xinda Home Textile (Myanmar) Co; Ltd Garment factory workers paid daily fee, pocket money and overtime pay, the reduction in salary after leaving the job was a huge loss for the labours.
“It is relatable even if the factory side is acting on the information provided by supers. But I can't understand how they reduce the grades of someone who doesn't violate anything like us. I tried to join the university depended on my own salary income but right now I can't predict what kind of difficulties I will face with this cut," the female labour told Myanmar Labour News.
According to Myanmar Labour News’ intel, Xinda Home Textile (Myanmar) Co;Ltd is operating near Kan Thar Yar bus stop, Industrial Zone Street 6, No.1 Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon.
