Labour rights activist and STUM leader Daw Myo Myo Aye, along with fellow activists Ko Thet Hnin Aung and Ma Thet Thar Swe, were released from Insein Prison at around 4:30 p.m. on October 20 according to a statement from the STUM office.

Preliminary reports state that all ongoing charges against them were officially withdrawn under a vice-presidential order, which was read aloud at the prison prior to their release, and they have since returned home.

Daw Myo Myo Aye and nine other STUM members were previously arrested and charged under Section 5(1)(f)(j) of the Section 1961 of the Criminal Probation and Probation Act and Sections 40 and 41 of law on registration of associations. While Daw Myo Myo Aye has now been released, it is reported that the remaining nine STUM members are still being held in separate detention within the prison.

Ko Thet Hnin Aung, Secretary-General of the Myanmar Industries Crafts & Services Trade Union Federation (MICS-TUsF), was unlawfully arrested on June 18, 2021, and had been imprisoned for over four years until his release on October 20.
