Labor right abuse at Lat War Garment factory

Lat War Garment factory (1) which locates at Industrial Zone (3), Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon region violates the labor rights by forcing the workers to work before the working hours and not giving the ticket fees in particular month.

“They force us to work 10 minutes before 8:00 am which is the working hours. The HR also exploits 10 minutes of the dinning time that we get from 12:00 to 12:30 and we have to start to work when the securities blow the whistle. We can’t refuse for overtime and we are forced to sing it. If we don’t they force us to change to sew other fabrics or not assigning us fabrics,” the worker said.

The workers can’t even go to toilet and have a proper meal as they are forced to finish excessive fabrics outputs and that cause their health and makes them faint. The emergency exists are also stacked with the fabrics and making them uncomfortable to exist with only one exist. The factory does not repair the lockers of the toilets too.

“They force the female workers to carry heavy stuffs. There is no fire safety measures in the factory. They don’t follow the workplace security and health laws.

The factory is known to be operating with around 1,000 workers and manufacturing MOHITO brand fabrics.

“They pay us by fabric fees. They don’t gives full wages in a single month. We only get paid the remaining of this month only at the next month. There is a workplace coordination team but they are only selected by the employer.” said the worker.

The other issues workers are facing are only given 4 restroom cards for each machine lines, cut 500 or 1,000 kyats for quality failed fabrics, being confiscated their phone since the morning and no responsibility taken for loss and fined 500 kyats for putting in the wrong box. The workers are seeking for help regarding these abuses.
