Workers have reported to the Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar (STUM) that JIMMY Garment (Myanmar) has been dismissing daily wage workers on the day they complete one month of service without paying theirovertime work. These workers also said they were not entitled to daily wage bonuses for Sundays and public holidays.
“The manager called all daily wage workers into the office at the end of last month (June 30), and told them not to come to work from the next day, effectively terminating them,” workers reported.
Most of the dismissed workers had not been given employment contracts by the factory by the time they completed one month of work. In addition, they had not received full payment for overtime and daily wage bonuses.
“The factory said we were daily wage workers and didn’t pay bonuses for government and public holidays. We worked four hours of overtime every Saturday, and eight hours on holidays, but none of this was paid,” said the workers.
STUM stated that JIMMY Garment (Myanmar) Co., Ltd has violated Chapter 3, Section 5(a), Sub-section 1 of the Employment and Skill Development Law, and therefore, they have filed a formal complaint with the township dispute settlement body and the Department of Labour Inspection under Section 38(a) for appropriate action.
JIMMY Garment (Myanmar) Co., Ltd is located on Industrial Road (7), Industrial Zone (1), Shwepyithar Township, Yangon, and is manufacturing products for the brand NORWAY Nautical School.
