Jewelry stores including the 29 Yadanar are using illegitimate contracts regarding the leave application between the employer and employees as highlighted by the labour activists.

A contract signed between the 29 Yadanar employer and employee regarding the leave went viral on the social media recently.

The contract has been criticized not only by labor activists but also by social media users as it is not in accordance with the law.

“Department of Labour Relation should be asked what they are doing. Almost all the jewelry stores are using contracts that is not accordance with the law.

A term founded in the contract states “I, the employee, agree to return to the workplace promptly upon the expiration of my leave. If I fail to do so, I will incur a fine. I acknowledge that the fine has been established in accordance with the mutual agreement between the company and the signatory. I commit to pay the fines in a single payment if I am more than 15 days late returning to work from the designated return date.”

The Labour affairs organizations said that they will help to the workers who asked them for help after suffering from labour right violations.

“We should not turn a blind eye upon the cases that are not inline with the labour law in act on public even if no one complaints. We will help if the worker who assumed themselves as the victim contact us,” Solidarity of Trade Unions, Myanmar (STUM) said.

STUM also pointed out that those contracts are not inline with the law and the relevant Department of Labour Relations should investigate.
