Workers report Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar (STUM) that Hosheng Myanmar Garment Co.Ltd is forcing all workers without even sparing pregnant women to work overtime until 9 p.m.

“They started forcing workers to work until 9 p.m. since June 17. Pregnant women became inevitable since they call all workers,” said someone close to the workers.

The factory reportedly ordered compulsory overtime until 9 p.m. starting from June 17 and informed workers that they must continue working on June 20, according to a statement posted by STUM on social media.

“They’re forcing workers to work overtime until 9 p.m. We have already reported this to STUM,” workers said.

The factory, employing over 1,000 workers, manufactures Flil Brand and operates in Mya Road, Thadukan Industrial Zone, Yangon.

(Note – In June 2023, Hosheng Myanmar Garment dismissed seven workers who demanded a wage increase. Following their dismissal, more than 600 workers protested, prompting a negotiation between both parties. After this, several of the workers who led chants during the protest were arrested and detained by the military council for several months while returning home. They were never reinstated in the workplace although they were eventually released following a court case.)
