Garment workers of Myanmar Guotai Huasheng Glory Fashion said that they are having to work in a dishonorable manner due to the rude shouting and coercion of the supers and leaders during the work of the garment factory.

There are more than 700 workers working in the factory which locates in U Htun Nyo Street, Hlaing Thar Yar Industrial Zone (4), Yangon Division and the factory is manufacturing brands such as INEXTENSO, CORTEFIEL and Sinsay brands soft fabrics and it is known to be Chinese national owned business.

"Line 14 Super is the worst. She shouts from the top of the line and yells at the workers who can't deliver the fabric in time. She swears and screams far beyond then the workers can handle. She doesn't care if her insults are posted online. She said that she'll keep yelling and swearing. She treats the workers who she dislike with malice," said the worker.

"The manager also knows that the issue of swearing by supers in the workplace is extreme, but he pretends not to know and even encouraging them. The manager himself says that he doesn't care no matter where we report. In fact, swearing in the workplace should be banned," the worker continued.

They have to work overtime mandatorily even if they are sick due to the pressure on who refuses to work. The worker said that they are having a hard time as they are being shouted and embarrassed for asking a gate pass on Saturdays.

The worker said that they had to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and until 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays and continue to Sundays without having a day off.

In addition, even if they inform to take a leave due to health issues, they are cut for 5,800 kyats for daily wages, 20,000 kyats for attendance bonus and also the professional fees.

“In addition to not being able to enjoy legal rights, those who are being harassed are ashamed and distressed as they are yelling and cursing all the time in the workplace. We are tolerating due to the livelihoods. We want these violations to be stopped. In fact, they could assign us in a softer way,” said the worker

The workers said that being sworn rudely in the workplace and not receiving the benefits of the law is a violation of the labor law and as the workers who are manufacturing international brands they want to work in accordance with human dignity.

The workers appeals are to not swear and yell while asking for fabric targets, to not discriminate the workers, to ask their consents in advance upon calling for overtime and to not hold grudges upon the workers who don’t work overtime.
