Workers from Handa Yangon Garment which locates at U Shwe Pin and U Myue Street Intersection is a Chinese owned factory which is operating with more than 2,500 workers and said that they factory is asking excessive fabric outputs and committing labor right abuses in the workplace.
The factory is manufacturing Joma, CINEMA CLUB, CELUANT, CRAFT, KIABI and YONEX brand Japanese fabrics and paying 4,800 kyats daily wage, 1,200 kyats overtime per hour and 10,000 kyats attendance bonus and ticket fees.
The working hours are from 8:00 a., to 4:30 p.m. and overtime is until 6:40 p.m., said by the workers.
They are being asked for excessive fabric outputs which is far beyond than they can sew and increasing day by day.
“They are asking for impossible fabric outputs, they asked 500 the next day if they asked 300 before. The supers are verbally abusing for not getting the outputs. The 1,000 kyats daily allowance is allowed only if the ticket fee exceeds 100,000 kyats and the foreigners are directly managing and assaulting the workers.
The workers said that they are not entitled to legal leaves and cut the attendance bonus for it and forced to work overtime with the reasons of having qualitied failed fabrics.
“Its very bad. The Chinese experts are taking the photo if the worker went out just to drink water. They fired innocence workers too. All workers are stress as they force us to sign warning for minor cases,” said the worker.
The worker’s appeals are the supers not to verbally abuse the workers, the foreigners not to directly manage the factory, to ask only the possible output, not to cut attendance bonus for taking legal leave and gate pass, to recircuit the overtime only with the worker’s consents, the foreigner experts not to take the picture of the workers and not to assault physically, not to force the workers to sign warning and fire without any mistakes.
