A worker in Golden Colour Fashion Myanmar garment factory which locates at Myataungwungyi U Mo Street, Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone 3, Innsein District, Yangon region was dismissed for not signing warning paper.
The HR clerk summoned Line Leader to the upper floor office on September 25 where WCC, line manager, HR, all super and managers present and asked them to sign warning due to discrepancy in garment list between Finishing department and line departments. The line leader refused to sign by reasoning that the list is match and half of the garments are transferred by the leader who transferred to line 3 and they can’t accept the fact that they alone have to sign while supervisors are also responsible.
They then return to the workplace after as the garment list they provided is match but only the leader who transferred made a mistake.
They were summoned again to the HR office and the manager, HR, all super and line 1 super told them that they had to sign warning as the sizes are unmatched although quantity is match. The employee told that they had already informed the issue to the all super and line manager before and they don’t accept that so that they will not sign warning.
They were again summoned to the office on 3:00 pm where the WCC team, a stranger man, line manager, factory manager, all super and HR present and told them that they will be given notice fee 1 month and don’t need to come from work starting from the next day as they don’t sign warning.
The employer don’t sign the notice paper as they can’t accept the notice without any valid reasons.
The production line was reported, bullied, suppressed and dismissed frequently for forming trade union.
The Innsein Township court fined 40 lakhs to the owner and the manager on August 23 for overtime violations and restricted to continue calling overtime.
The Chinese national owned factory was reported for forced recruiting overtime until 8:30 pm on July 8, 11 and 12 2024 which exceeds 2 hours than the legal overtime limits (19 hours and 30 minutes) and not allowing workers to rest for 30 minutes after the normal working hours.
The factory is manufacturing Kappa brand apparels and hires more than 1,000 workers. A protest occurred in November 2022 when the employer cut nearly half of the workers expert fees.
