Gibaek Myanmar Co.,Ltd garment factory fired if labours miss just a day

The labours of the ibaek Myanmar Co.,Ltd garment factory which locates in Thaike Gyi, Yangon say that they are not allowed to take leaves and the factory even fire if they do.

“Firing them saying “don’t come anymore” for missing a day. They are firing 3 or 4 people per month,” said a female labour who is currently working in Gibaek Myanmar Co.,Ltd garment factory.The woman also said that most of the people who were fired were fired because of taking leave.

Even though the labours pay social security contributions, they said that they are not given any leave such as medical and casual leave, and if they take a leave, they are informed about the dismissal through the line leaders.

"There was even a labour who is not allowed to take leave even with a hospital certificate of appendicitis. Labours are not fired by HR. but by the female all super. It's because it's kind of exposed at the bottom,” a female factory labour said.

The labours said that to sign an employment contract (EC) between the garment factory and the the labours require 3 months of services.

The Gibaek Myanmar Co.,Ltd garment factory is owned by a Korean citizen and the labours are being managed by the manager/all super (Daw-------).

"She said she take two positions and is directly firing employees. She didn’t even warn as first or second attempts but fire immediately,” said the female labour.

Gibaek Myanmar Co.,Ltd garment factory manufactures men and women wears and in addition it also produces the brand THE REDFACE based in South Korea.

It is said that if they want to go back home from the workplace due to reasons including health, they will not be given a gate pass from the factory and it is informed in a meeting involving all labours.

"They told us not to come out of the house if we are sick. They told us that we will not be allowed to return if we get to work," the labour said.

Gibaek Myanmar Co., Ltd. is a jacket factory that has been opened in Kan Taw Kan ward, Thaike Gyi Township for only 6 months. Currently, the factory is operating with around 300 labours.
