The workers from the Chinese national owned EASTER Garment factory which located at Wartayar Industrial Zone, Shwepyitar Township, Yangon Division, employs more than 1000 workers said there are excessive fabric output demands and discriminations in their factory and they are seeking for help.
The factory manufacture brands such as OVS, HK WORKS LONDON, HOUSE, and CALLIOPE. And there is no trade union in the factory. A workplace coordination committee is formed but it can’t resolve workplace disputes.
“The factory is known by every one as no-3 of the 5-sub factory from War Ta Yar Industrial Zone. The working hours are from 8 am to 6 pm, with an additional 2 hours of overtime. Break time is only provided during lunch, meaning that workers must work from 8 am to 8 pm, excluding lunch breaks,” the workers said
Workers are required to work even on Sundays. The factory demands output beyond what the workers can reasonably produce. There are instances of discrimination in reward distribution, particularly favoring those who are close to supervisors. Additionally, the cleanliness of the toilets is inadequate. Regarding leave, it is difficult for workers to obtain time off unless they have accrued sufficient experience
“They asked fabric output beyond our capacity and even if we fulfill it, those who are closed with the supers and all supers are paid more. This is like an discrimination and exploitation,” the workers said.
The worker appeals are to ask their consents before calling overtime, to grant leave for valid reasons, to provide snacks when they are required to work until 8 pm, to ensure clean toilet facilities, to eliminate discrimination among them and to refrain from demanding output beyond workers' capacity
