It is reported that a worker at G-Yuan Packaging Material (Myanmar) factory was forcibly fired. The factory, which has been open since 2020, is a factory that manufactures cardboard and paper. It is known that there are around 100 workers working in the factory that locates in Nga Moe Yate Street, War Ta Yar Industrial Zone.
Solidarity of Trade Union Myanmar, STUM announced that the fired Store/Driver worker had an argument with the security staff of the corresponding factory when he went to deliver goods to a factory on January 1st.
It is reported that the worker who was fired for the argument was forced to sign a pledge by the factory owner's brother and the interpreter. On the evening of February 5th, the factory order was damaged due to the argument and as the corresponding factory was forcing to fire the worker saying that they won’t work together in the future if they do not fire him, the factory officials force the Store/Driver worker to submit a resignation letter.
“We heard that the argument started by asking for a lighter. It’s not necessary to fire immediately for this issue. The process should include first and second warnings. They can’t immediately fire for these cases,” STUM said.
The worker said that he could not submit a letter of resignation. But the factory told him that whether he submit or not he was already fired, so he don’t need to come any longer.
"The worker who was fired was fired without even having a warning before. It's not only a person’s fault when there is a problem. Of course, it could be the other person’s mistake as well. We cannot accept the fact that they would only fire their stuff,” the STUM group said.
It is reported that the worker who was fired has been working for more than 2 years, but still receiving only 4,800 kyats for daily wages. The Ministry of Labor announced that starting from October 2023, the minimum wage of 4,800 kyats as well as 1,000 kyats of stipend must be given for workers in enterprises with 10 or more workers.
