Young people drugged to serve in the army is a news people are hearing constantly and every families who have a legal age family member are having more and more concerns, according to the Yangon residents.
The age of service according to the mandatory miliary service law signed by the Junta is the age that can work and currently most workplaces are locating in downtowns and crowded areas. Residents who live in peri-urban areas such as Hlaing Thar Yar, Shwe Pyi Thar and Mingalardone are also having their safety concerns as most works finish only after 18:00.
“Most workplaces near us are factories and we have to go to the downtown to seek for other jobs. We cannot be unemployed during these days. But we are going back home only after 18:00. We can’t relief until we arrive our home and neither do the family members,” said a local from Shwe Pyi Thar Township.
The young people’s worries are increase after the enacting of the civilian military service law and there are also several news of adolescents arrested with no reason.
“The transportation is not convenient on way back home. We have to afraid of both conscription and robbers. There are no people on the road in the peri-urban areas after 19:00,” said a female stuff.
Factory stuffs and workers are also worrying due to the conscripting news.
“We had to work overtimes. They provide us transportation but what could we do if the soldiers raid the bus. We want the employers to consider and lessen for this. We do not know what responsibilities would the factory takes if something bad happens,” said a factory worker.
Public insecure is getting worse during the Junta’s era and people’s concerns increase after they had enacted the civilian mandatory military service law.
