Workers from Myanmar SINYOUNG CLOTHES FASHION garment factory which locates at Asugyi Ward, Yangon-Pathein Road, Htantapin Township said that their rights are being violated.
The factory is operating with more than 500 workers and manufacturing Sinsay brand apparels. It is owned by a Chinese national.
The working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. including 3 hours of overtime and workers said they are being called until 9:00 p.m. without being informed in advanced and they are facing health issues and discriminations.
“The employer and their subordinates discriminate the workers who don’t work overtime. So, we are working due to the pressure although we don’t feel well. We have to work overtime even on Sunday. Those who don’t are verbally abused,” said a worker.
The factory doesn’t allow legal casual and medical leaves. A worker is cut 4,800 kyats daily wages, allowance 1,000 kyats, subsidy 1,000 kyats, meal fee 1,000 kyats and attendance bonus 30,000 kyats for missing a day of work.
It is also known that they are having difficulties to obtain medicines if they feel unwell in workplace as the nurse is not present in the dispensary. Workers are hoping for Workplace Coordination Committee which they can elect freely due to not having trade union.
The factory hires 60 day laborers and they are not promoted to permanent stuffs although they have worked for 3 months. Some day laborers are dismissed before 3 months without any valid reasons. They are not entitled to attendance bonus, social security and leaves.
A production line with 40 people is asked for 50 fabric per hour and they are verbally abused if the targets are not meet although they are working all day.

To appoint the day laborers with 3 months of service as permanent stuffs. 3. To not call excessive overtime and pressurize. 4. To not call all-night overtime without informing in advanced. 5. The nurse to be present in the dispensary and 6. To allow legal leaves.
