Workers from LUCKY FORTUNE GARMENT factory said that the factory is asking fabric outputs far beyond than their productivity such as asking 600 fabric per day in a cavity with only 37 workers including the supers and they are also verbally abused.

The Chinese national owned factory is located in Sayar U Htun Street, Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone 4, Insein Township, Yangon region and manufacturing CALLIOPE and STRADNIVARIUS brands with more than 1.000 workers.

The workers said they have to work without going to toilet and take a water break to finish the fabrics and the worker who made quality failed fabric is verbally abused and humiliated in front of all male and female workers.

‘The line 1 super and line 18 super are the rudest,” said a worker who don’t want to be name.

The factory employes underage workers who are over 14 years old and they don’t get the same benefits as the adults although they have to work the same tasks and not entitled to more than 2 days of social security medical leave and completely no for other types of leaves.

“We can’t take casual leave for emergency reasons. It cost daily wage of 6,000 kyats and attendance bonus 20,000 kyats for taking a day off. The transportation bus are also not sufficient and 60 people have to ride in a same bus. It would not convenient for the pregnant workers. And the front room is only for the supers and all supers. We want the factory to provide us sufficiently,” said the workers.

And there were no emergency medicines and medic clinic in the factory for workplace accidents and health issues.

There were no trade union to address the abuses mentioned above and there is a workplace coordination committee but it is formed by the employer’s consent and can’t address the workplace disputes.

The workers said that they want to request the factory to give them access to leaves, to provide them sufficient transportation, to forbid the supervisors’ verbal abuses and to provide medicines and medic-clinic.
