Best Choice Myanmar garment factory which locates at Kan Thar Yar Street, Anawrahtar Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon is manufacturing 157. FUNK and Vaile Bieue brands with more than 500 workers and the workers said that there are labor rights’ violations and forcing in the factory.
The workers said that the factory is owned by a Chinese national. There is a trade union in the workplace, and the WCC is only made up of people selected by the employer, and there is no way to solve the difficulties in the workplace.
Regarding violations, the workers are being forcibly asked for cloth standards, and one worker is asked to set up to 500 cloths per day, and the workers are forced to work overtime if the targets are not met.
“The workers have to work overtime with no choice. We have to work even on Sundays and the overtime wage are not paid fully. 10 people from our cavity is given 5,000 mmk but others were given only 1,000 mmk. They don’t provide transportation for overtime in Sunday. We have to go with our plans. Despite of not getting overtime wages, we even need to spend our money for around 2,000 mmk. Most got diarrhea as they don’t provide a purified water but instead the token water in the factory,” said the worker.
He said that they are having difficulties as they are called overtime on public holidays and not get paid in accordance with the law.
The workers appeals are to recircuit the overtime only with their consents, to provide transportation if they are called overtime, to give full overtime wages, to elect a labor representative to the workplace coalition committee as per the consent of the workers and to provide drinking water in the factory.
This is the third time we reported the words of the workers regarding the Best Choice Myanmar factory and we have reported twice before at December 27, 2023 and January 5, 2024.
The workers said that even after being reported, rights violations continue to be committed in the workplace without taking responsibility, rules and regulations have been issued not to speak in the workplace, and the brands that are currently being manufactured are no longer being sewn with clothing brands.
