E&P Fashion garment factory demanding excessive fabric targets

The workers said that the E&P Fashion Garment Factory which locates at Anawrahta Road, Industrial Zone (5), West Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon Division is demanding excessive fabric targets, and the targets are different from one line to another and they are being discriminated against upon that.

The workers said that they have difficulties as they are being demanded excessive fabric targets in the workplace and the supers and all supers scold and intimidate them daily if those targets are not met.

"They demand the fabric targets unfairly such as 70 to 80 cloths per hour for a worker. We feel miserable every day as the supers and all supers scold and yell at if those employer’s demands are not met," said a worker who works at that factory.

The workers said that the factory force them to sign a warning for mistakes which is not include in the employment contract and the manager screams and intimidates them by saying “This is my age, not yours. You can’t act with your accord. Who do you think I am? A veteran.” 

There are issues where we sick or have family member health emergencies after arriving to the work. In such conditions, they did not permit us a gate pass. When the workers call the labor office to seek help the Department of Labor and Department of Workshop and Labor Law Inspection official replied that they could not interfere as this is a business and they could not tell the employer as it is not stipulated in the law. 

“They issue the salary at 7:00 pm on the day pay with the grounds of important orders. The workers who have to go back far away have risks. We are worrying for every pay day. The employer said that the salary would be issued only on the next day if we don’t work overtime. We want to let us go back early on that day,” the worker continued.

They said that they are suffering as they do not have the right to elect upon the formation of workplace coalition committee but only the heads of the HR department were selected and formed and the WCC do not resolve any of the workers’ difficulties.

The workers said that they want to appeal not to call overtime on the pay day and let them go back early, to give the workers who sick while working gate pass, not to discriminate against the workers, not to demand excessive fabric targets but instead a possible target that a worker can sew and the manager not to intimidate them by mentioning the military. 

It is also known that more than 200 workers are working in that factory which is owned by a Chinese national and manufacturing Sinsay brands shirts.
