It is known that more than 400 workers of the E&P Fashion Garment Factory which locates on Anaw Ra Htar Road, Industrial Zone (5), Hlaing Thar Yar Township are being threatened inside the factory.
The factory is owned by a Chinese national and employs more than 400 people. It is said that the factory is manufacturing House xc brands Jean and short-sleeve jackets.
On September 30, the manager of the factory said he will make the workers whom the employer don’t like and who did not calm down not to be able to apply for job in the next and also told that he would label them as PDFs and handle them over to the Junta, according to the workers.
Due to the presence of such threats, the workers feel insecure in the workplace and are working with worries.
Also, all night and all light overtimes are forced with the ground of the importance of the orders and the worker said that they are having a hard time as they were paid by fabric-amount although it was said they would be paid by daily wages.
"When we asked how the salary would be paid, we were told that it would be paid at the rate of 4,800 dailies from the 1st to the 30th. But it changed it to a fabric amount depending payment 5 days after the end of the month. The actual salary and the salary the employer calculated have a gap, so it is not convenient," the worker said.
Although they are not satisfied with the issues in the workplace, it is difficult to file a complaint, the workers are being kept quiet by fear because they are being threatening that they will not be able to get other jobs by using their photos and that they will be arrested by the military.
"The factory was announced to be temporarily closed on the 20th of the 9th month. It reopened on the 2nd of the 10th month. The days of the closure were only paid 2,400 without the consent of the workers. About half of the workers who pointed this out were not asked to work and were asked to sit still," a worker said.
He said that the number of workers who pointed to the payment of only 2,400 days for the factory's temporary holiday was more than 180, but there was no recalculation.
As for the workers’ appeals, they want to request that not to make threats by the manager to have the workers arrested by the military, were not treated with malice to the 187 workers who weren’t asked to work, to repair the toilets, to have clarity upon paying the salary, not to make changes when the pay day gets near, to ask the workers desire before calling all light and all night overtimes and not to forced to work overtime.
