Dishang Kenny Garment factory workers having to work 16 hours a day

Workers from Dishang Kenny Garment factory which locates on Min Mahar Min Kaung Street, Shwe Than Lwin Industrial Zoen, Hlaing Thar Yar Township told that they are having to work 16 hours a day.

Dishang Kenny Garment factory is a factory of a Dishang Group and the working hours are from 7:00 to 23:00. The owner is a Chinese national and manufacturing SEASON REASON by Lin&Red, RESERVED and CLOSSHI brand fabrics.

“They force overtimes without the workers’ consents. They force us daily from 16:00 to 23:00. And force the workers to sleep in the factory to work again the next day at the same schedule,” explained the workers.

The workers have to work overtime until 17:00 and also on the Sunday off day. The workers who refuse to work overtime are discriminated and treated with malice and the factory officials fire them as well.

Most workers are also having health issues because of excessive overtime without casual and medical leaves. Their daily wages (5,800) kyats, attendance bonus (20,000) kyats and grade bonus depends on the levels are cut for taking a leave.

Although grade levels are set, only the workers who are comfortable with the supers and all supers are getting it and day laborers who have been working for 3 months to 2 years are not employed as permanent workers which make them suffer from legal rights.

The workers also said they are being asked for the impossible fabrics which the supers and all supers are verbally abusing them if not finish making them work overtime for free to finish those.

In addition to the free overtime, the workers are also having concerns and feeling unsafe in everywhere due to the military conscription news of the military.

Dishang Kenny workers said that they want to request the factory not to verbally abuse, call overtime without their desires, not to discriminate and hold grudges and to pay for their labor for overtime.
