It is reported that the Department of Labour has instructed to submit the personal information of workers working in factories in Hlaing Thar Yar Township by August 30th.

In the notification sent by the Department of Labor to the industrial zone committees and factories and workshops, it was instructed to send the information of the workers who are working in order to facilitate the census and household survey work.

"I have to give the list of workers in the factory from time to time. They had the information when they issued UID smart cards, now they are collecting it for the census. Its doesn’t matter for a census but workers are afraid if it is for conscription,” said a worker from Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone.

Military Council’s spokesman General Zaw Min Tun said that men from 18 to 35 years old and women from 18 to 27 years old women are required to serve in the military and youth are being conscripted for military service on a batch basis nationwide. He also said that they plan to conscript women starting from batch 5.

“They are taking information of women in our street and the girls are worrying about when they would come and its not easy to go to foreign countries as they block us ways by ways. So, they just have to work at local factories for the expenses and studying the situations,” said a resident from Hlaing Thar yar.

Currently, people are worried about the fact that the military council has instructed that men between the ages of 35 and 65 must undergo military training to form a militia at the ward/village level.
