Sources close to the workers say that 29 workers have resigned from the Li Da Garment Co., Ltd. factory, where they demote a super (supervisor) to leader position due to an absent. "When the workers complained to the labor coordination office, the office resolved it in one day. The factory side apologized for everything. They said to go back to work. The workers said that they were not comfortable to continue to work and they did not return to work and asked for compensation. On that same day, the factory gave the compensation at once. It's like everyone has left their jobs," said a person close to the workers.

Solidarity of Trade Union Myanmar has written on its social media that the officials of Li Da Garment Co.,Ltd. forced the workers to work overtime all light and all night. There are also layoffs and benefits such as medical and casual leaves are not allowed. The factory opened on June 1, and the workers said that they have been paying social security fees every month. However, they complain as the factory side fail to give.

“There is no leaves at all in that factory. We don’t even know what is causal leaves and medical leaves also can’t be taken as we don’t have any proofs that we paid social security fee. There is also no EC contract signed. She was in worry at the clinic due to her child and not able to call them directly. And the officials immediately layoff her without warnings,” said a resigned worker to Myanmar Labour News.

One of the workers said that due to the demotion of the line leader, super, and the statement that the line workers would be moved and replaced with other workers, negotiations had been going on for the whole day, but they had not been resolved, so they filed a complaint with the labor office.

The HR department dragged out the super from the workplace machine line. Its disfigured. The line workers were traumatized when others were called to the machine line. The person in charge of the factory spoke to resign together with the leader," she said.

The Li Da Garment Co., Ltd factory has around 250 employees. There are no nurses, medic-clinic and medical supplies. In addition, the workers said that there are only 3 toilets that employees can use in the workplace.

"We didn't leave according to our desire, It is not easy to find a job now. We will have to complete the cases that we reported. There are almost 30 workers, so we will try to find jobs again," said one of the workers.

Li Da Garment Co., Ltd. factory is a Chinese national-owned factory, located at No. (159), Utthaphaya Road, Thar Du Kan Industrial Zone. The workers said that it is a factory that manufacture brand fabrics through intermediary, and there are no trade unions in the workplace, nor has the WCC been formed.
