The factory manufacturing Japanese CINEMA CLUB fabric brands is operating with ticket system and the allowance stipulated by government is not given if the workers can’t finish fabrics equivalent to 100,000 kyats by the ticket and the workers said that they are asked excessive outputs.
The factory is the Chinese national owned factory called \(Myanmar)Co.,L.td factory which locates at Wun Htauk Street, Shwe Lin Ban industrial zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon division.
There are more than 3,000 workers in the factory and there is no trade union nor workplace coordination committee to address the workplace disputes.
The working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the workers said they have to work until 6:40 p.m. if the factory called overtime.
The benefits are 4,800 kyats for daily wage, 30,000 kyats allowance per month, 10,000 kyats attendance bonus and they don’t get the attendance bonus if they can’t manufacture fabrics with ticket system equivalent to 100,000 kyats.
“The employer asked impossible fabric outputs from the workers in the name of fabric fee. The fabric standards are raised day by day and the supers verbally abuse during those times and those who manufacture small points never reached the 100,000 target,” said the worker.
The workers said that most workers don’t get the 30,000 kyats allowance bonus as but finished with the daily wages. The foreigners are directly managing the workers in the workplace and attendance bonus is also cut for taking leave.
“The supers pressurized us to work on Sundays with the reason of having quality failed fabrics and force us without giving overtime fee and we neither have the chance to refuse as they always find mistakes from us to make us sign warnings and dismiss us. We are working with wariness although it is a factory job,” said the worker.
The workers said that they want to request the supervisors and supers not to verbally abuse the workers, the foreigners not to directly manage the workers, to give 30,000 kyats allowance to every workers, to ask only the possible fabric amount from the workers, not to cut attendance bonus for taking legal leaves and gate pass, to call overtime with the workers’ consents and to pay the overtime wages in accordance with the law.
