(Failure to follow overtime laws, forced work)

We are from Chi Mei garment factory.
It’s okay working here. They pay our wages on time. But it would be better if they only made us work regular hours from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM.

It’s really uncomfortable that they force us to work overnight and night shift overtime. The office secretary and the production manager (MR) tell us to say there’s no such thing as overnight or night overtime when audit teams visit the factory.

They tell us to strongly deny working overtime if auditors ask more detailed questions. Production Manager Ma Zin Hnin Hnin Aye is forcing us to work overtime. They make us work overnight and then still come back to work the next morning.

Normally, we’re supposed to rest the next day and return the day after if we work overnight. The line supervisors don’t pressure us at all. It’s only the production manager who pushes us hard to work overtime forcefully.

There are often arguments between the WCC and the production manager about the overtime shifts, About the overtime shifts. WCC explains that it’s difficult to travel home after working overtime, so it’s inconvenient. But the manager responds harshly saying, “You must work overtime. Everyone else does. You have to.”

When WCC asked if the factory would take responsibility if something happened to us on the way, the production manager didn’t say anything more.

The factory manager also says that we work stay until 8:30 PM if we don’t work overnight. They say we’ll always be released at 4:30 PM if we refuse.

Right now, we’re being forced into overnight and night shifts. There’s one group working the 8:30 shift and another doing overnight—every single day.

There’s so much pressure at the factory. We’re being forced too much. There are super natural events every time we work night overtime. One night, a boy got possessed by a ghost. The next morning, it was a girl.

I just want the right people to know what’s happening in our factory.
Thank you very much to Myanmar Labour News.
