BONTECH Manufacturing factory calls excessive overtime and force pregnant workers to work all-night

Workers from BONTECH Manufacturing Company which locates at Thabawa Bus-Stop, Padamyar Street, Thardukan Industrial Zone, Shwe Pyi Thar Township said that they want resolvent upon the fact that the factory is calling excessive all night overtime including the pregnant workers.

Workers asked for help at STUM regarding the overtime recruitment after they were forced to work all night overtime including the pregnant workers after they refused to work overtime on Sunday, September 8, 2024.

Workers said that the factory is violating the labour rights by calling excessive overtimes such as until 5:00 am and 12:00 p.m. of the next day, doesn’t exempt the pregnant workers and illegally dismiss the workers.

Workers have to sleep unproperly at the factory after working overtime until 12:00 am and have to get up at 5:00 am and came back at 8:00 am to work causing them not getting enough sleep and feel dizzy in the workplace and other health issues.

Workers said mid-night and all-night overtimes are called by workplace requirement and they are allowed to go if they don’t have consent but those who leave are pressurized and intimidated. SO workers have to sign that they work overtime on their consent.

The Chinese national is directly managing the workplace and calls overtime on Sundays. Workers’ complaint the factory in mid-June regarding overtime. There was no actions, although they complaint and the factory continues to recruit the pregnant workers as well.

The factory operated with Yangon Panatex name at compound number 4, Ward Number (Nga-12), Thardukan indusrial Zone and now operates with the name of Bontech Manufacturing Garment factory, the factory is owned by a Chinese national and manufacturing COVER GUARD, PIONEER, Tech-Wear and VIZWELL brand apparels with 700 workers and recruiting 150 200 workers for mid-night and all-night overtimes.
