On May 29, workers from Bontech Manufacturing Garment Co., Ltd, located in the Thadukan Industrial Zone on Patama Road, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon Region, called for an increase in their daily wage to 13,000 kyats, aiming to secure a livable income.

The factory workers demanded a raise in the minimum daily wage to 13,000 kyats, an increase in overtime pay to 2,500 kyats per hour, and that all relevant allowances be aligned with the 13,000 kyats standard.

As commodity prices and the cost of living continue to rise sharply in Myanmar, workers across various factories have increasingly been demanding a raise in the current minimum wage, which they say no longer meets basic living needs.
