BOFEI GARMENT Co.,ltd factory which locates at intersection of Seik Kan Thar Street and Mya Taung Wun U Myo street, Shwe Lin Ban Industrail Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township is reported for abusing labor rights.
The factory is a Chinese owned factory operated with more than 400 workers and manufacturing Sinsay, RE brand trousers.
The factory is abusing the workers by asking the excessive fabric output from the workers, demanding 30 fabric piece per hour where the cavity with 40 workers even struggling to get 15 per hour and the supers verbally abusing the female workers if they don’t finish the fabrics.
There is no one who can address the damages of the workers as there are no WCC team in the workplace and trade union. Although the workers contribute in the social security every month, they are not entitled to social security and medical leaves and the employer called a meeting to said no one would be allowed gate pass or leave unless it is a fatal case and if do no earlier than 16:10.
And even if the workers could go to social security clinic for health issues their 5,600 kyats daily wages and 10,000 kyats attendance bonus are cut as they are not entitled to leaves and the same goes for taking casual leaves in emergency cases.
It is also known that the employer does not address the issues of the stinky toilets which is in front of the dining room which affects their health.
There are more than 30 day laboreres in the work place and permanent workers are get paid 4,800 kyats daily wages + 1000 kyats allowance and 1,400 kyats overtime fee per hour and those who have more than 3 months of service are only given the daily wages and overtime fees of 1,200 and only 4,800 kyats for the whole day in Saturdays. They are working the same tasks with the workers although they are not get paid the same.
The workers appeals are to appoint the day laborers with more than 3 months of service as a permanent workers, the Chinese foreigners to not be allowed to manage the workers directly, to provide a distance between dinning room and toilet, to ask only the fabric output they could give and to give legal leave benefits.
