ZHEJIANG NEWWAY(MYANMAR) GARMENT (previously SEN YU CLOTHINGS (MYANMAR) which locates at Bamaw Atwin Wun Street, Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon is demanding 250 fabric pieces from the workers in 10 working hours, according to their workers.
The factory is owned by a Chinese national and operating with more than 1,000 workers and doesn’t have a trade union and workplace coordination committee to address workplace disputes. The factory is manufacturing XSIDE brand Japanese jackets.
The wages in the factory are 5,800 kyats for 8 working hours a day, 1,400 kyats overtime per day, 20,000 kyats attendance bonus per month, the expert fees are 40,000 kyats for grade A, 30,000 kyats for grade B and 20,000 kyats for C.
“The main violation is asking the impossible fabric amount from the workers such as 25 fabric per hour for an cavity from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm which makes 250 fabric per day and the supers together with the foreigners verbally abuse us if we can’t finish the fabrics,” said a worker who don’t want to be named.
The workers said that they don’t get medical and casual leaves in the factory and attendance bonus 20,000 kyats and expert fees are cut for missing a day of work.
“They cut our attendance bonus even if we take a gate pass for a certain issue. The foreigner intimidated that they would cut our expert fees even if our causal leaves approved,” said the workers.
“Workers from other departments have to work all evening or all night without their consents and those are around 10 days per month. The workers are unsatisfied as they don’t get paid overtime wages and other benefits fully,” said the worker.
The workers said that their requests to the factory are to ask only the possible fabric outputs from them, the foreigners not to manage them directly and verbally abuse, not to cut attendance bonus and expert fees for taking legal leaves, the supervisors not to verbally abusee the workers, to provide safety measures and heat and cold balance coordination in the factory, to pay the overtime wages fully and to call overtime only with their consents.
